Relaxing Outdoor Oasis
BEAUTY AND FUNCTIONALITY
Privacy, outdoor entertaining, and play areas for their children were a priority for a family in search for a property. The house that caught their attention, sits on a hilltop overlooking a stream. Originally built in the 1830’s to house millworkers for the local mill, its humble history and character ultimately became their oasis in the suburbs.
A formal entrance garden and brick walk is sheltered from the road by an attractive hedge. A rear terrace was created to include various areas for outdoor living and entertaining. The focal point of the terrace is the water lily pond and the dramatic views of the stream that runs through the property. Native plants are utilized in many of the gardens and the design incorporates a native plant meadow. An informal patio is nestled into the landscape for clients to have a quiet area to enjoy views of the flower gardens and meandering stream below. Lastly, while not only providing beauty, the design also provides function to the site by incorporating a raised vegetable garden, a chicken-coop and rooftop garden shed.
The family now enjoys picking berries from the garden, walking the meandering paths through the rear meadow, and swimming in the stream. This property is truly a family treasure brought to life.
