A career-oriented couple required a comfortable outdoor space for casual entertaining of family and friends.

On this steeply sloping site retaining walls were used to create flowing lawns and paved terraces for large scale entertaining. The designer used the walls to create an additional feature, an attractive allee, which is viewed from both indoor and outdoor living areas.

Sweeps of low maintenance daffodils and daylilies add seasonal color as they reduce maintenance on the steep slopes. Views of the stream valley and nature preserve beyond are unimpeded. The water feature, a vanishing edge pond, adds interest and the soothing sound of falling water to the terrace.
